Blogs - WedSpace's blog / Fabulous Photography - PostsIsn't this the cutest thing?! This sweet guy had a photog capture his proposal. What do you guys think of this idea? Would you spend the extra cash to have a professional shoot your engagement? Could make for some great memories ...
I love how his girl jumps into his lap!
Trash the Dress sessions are a bit controversial among brides ... so what do you all think? Are you keeping your wedding gown as a memento of your Big Day? Are you preserving your dress for your future daughter? Or do you plan to have a Trash the Dress shoot at the beach, a lake, a field, or an urban setting?
As you can see below, TTD sessions can be really sexy (especially if you include your husband)! I mean, you're all wet or dirty ... For a lot of brides, it's a time to be totally uninhibited, express yourself, and just let loose. For many, the sexy, interesting photos are more of a keepsake than the gown.
One idea, if you love the TTD concept but cry at the thought of mud stains on your wedding gown, purchase a second, inexpensive gown just for the shoot. If you check out the bottom set of photos, that bride purchased a sexy Nicole Miller gown from eBay just for her Trash the Dress session. Great idea!
What do you think? If you were going to have a Trash the Dress session, where would you have it?
I love this snowy bride ... It was 30 degrees and all slushy when they shot this! By Kara Pennington.
![]() ![]() Focus Photo of Lake Tahoe shot this beautiful TTD session ... the bride looks spectacular in that clear water.
![]() ![]() So sexy, right? Diana Lott shot these two frolicking in the Aruba ocean water.
![]() ![]() I couldn't let the day round out without showing you all this couple, John & Vennessa, shot by (the awesome) One Love Photo. I heart her off-the-shoulder eyelet gown and yellow sash, carefree hair, and orchid tucked behind the ear ... Love sure does look good on these two.
How sweet is this moment between Melissa and her mom? And I love their feathery headpieces ...

Getting ready for your engagement shoot? Wondering what to wear and bring?
First, talk to your photographer about what he or she has in mind for the E shoot. The photog will ask you to bring a few changes of clothes, about two or three outfits. Choose outfits that are very "you," but that photograph nicely. Of course, wear something you feel comfortable lying down, jumping, hugging, and moving around in (you'll be doing all of these poses), but also consider the colors, shape, and patterns that will look the best on film. Light colors and tiny prints don't photograph as well as dark colors or brights (which are also slimming). Dresses are always a great choice. I love a girl in a wrap dress, which is universally flattering. Or, try accentuating the smallest part of your waist with a belt to look pretty and shapely. And as for your groom-to-be, don't get too matchy-matchy. His outfits should complement yours (check out Stephanie & Jose below; she's in a purple dress and he's in a purple tie). Many shots will be full-length, so make sure you wear great shoes. If you're more comfortable in black or neutrals, hooray for bright, colorful shoes! They really catch your eye in the photos. Your photog will scout the locations he or she wants to use before the shoot. E shoots should be outdoors, forget a studio portrait. Try a field, an urban street setting, or even your home. This is where wearing bright colors comes in -- you and your fiance will really pop off the backdrop. Talk to your photographer about what props you might want to include. Stephanie & Stephen below incorporated awesome vintage cameras into their shot. Joanna & Cooper did part of their E shoot with a watering can and another part in Cooper's kitchen, cooking breakfast. Bradley & Jordyn also used a slew of great props: a bicycle, basket of peaches, even a puppy! Also, consider a bouquet of wildflowers, balloons, an old car, your kids -- whatever embodies you and enlivens the shot. Finally, just relax and let loose. Kiss, hug, climb a tree, give him a piggyback ride, eat cotton candy. I love how E shoots have evolved from a studio portrait or single bridal portrait to the carefree, colorful shoots of today. Have a question about what to wear, do or bring to your E shoot? Twitter us @wedspace or send me a comment. Now check out some great examples of E shoot perfection! One of my favorite E shoots of all time is a great example of what to wear. Bright polka dots are perfect! {Shot by Punam Bean}
More of Ashley & Andy's shoot -- outfit #2! Look how her red dress and his complementary navy suit pop right off the background.
See how Stephanie and Stephen used a prop to get playful in their shoot? Plus, you can't go wrong with a sweet dress, wide waist belt and cowboy boots! {Shot by Jasmine Star}
Wear a bright shoe! Yellow, pink, red, blue ... Plus, her black tights are slimming and stylish. {Shot by Sloan Photo}
![]() Stephanie & Jose look like a polished pair without being too matchy. Lilac is a great color on film!
![]() Wear a big, bold print, not a small one. Chelsey's shiny floral dress is perfection. And, don't be afraid to show off your assets (she has great legs, doesn't she?)! E shoots are about fun, personality, and a little sass.
Joanna's dress has all the components of a perfect outfit for an E shoot: 1. Bright color, 2. Wrap dress that's subtly sexy, and 3. Ruffles! (OK, I just like ruffles.) The white chairs in her fiance's backyard are a great prop, too.
![]() Here's an example of a delicate print that works. This couple shot in an open field, so Jordyn's dress and bright yellow heels become the focal point against a subtle backdrop. Bradley's simple white shirt and bow tie complement the vintage feel. {Shot by Simply Bloom}
I first discovered Los Angeles photographer Max Wanger from Cup of Jo's now-famous balloon engagement shoot {see it below}. Max has the most incredible soft, vintagey, intimate style that makes you feel like you're right there next to the couple during their shoot. His couples' personalities shine through his creative eye.
Plus, he uses the most marvelous sets and props -- bubbles, hoola hoops, cotton candy, balloons, lollipops, ribbons, swingsets, rollercoasters, the Santa Monica Pier --
so all his shoots come out with a playful, happy vibe. Like two kids in love. How it should be.

![]() ![]() ![]() I simply adore the First Look photo concept, where the bride and groom opt to see each other before the ceremony.
For one, it alleviates some of the pre-wedding jitters, but more wonderful is the truly incredible moment that happens when the groom turns around and sees his wife-to-be for the first time, looking more beautiful than he could have imagined.
I love the looks on the guys' faces and the tears of joy and the big hugs. First Looks are some of the most special moments in a wedding -- right up there with the walk down the aisle and the first kiss. It's so amazing to have your photog capture it, so consider making time for First Look photos. I highly recommend it to all brides.
It was so hard to choose First Look shots to show you, but here are some of my favorites!
Aren't Alicia and Steven the most adorable couple? She looks radiant, and I just love the surprise on his face when he sees her. {Photos by the ever-more-talented Jasmine Star}

This has to be one of the most touching First Look photos out there. I teared up at the expression on Michael's face when he sees Kristen. This is what First Looks are all about ... realizing you're the luckiest two people in the world. {Photos by Tara Swain}
Cori and Eli not only look beautiful together, they were so excited to get married. Look at Eli's fist pump! {Photos by Jasmine Star}

![]() Sorry so long since my last post, but I've been away of holiday ... a wonderfully relaxing cruise to Alaska. I'm all refreshed and back to work, so new blog posts tomorrow!
Until tomorrow, enjoy this lovely photo from Simply Bloom, via GreenWeddingShoes ...
![]() The weather held up for my good friend's wedding this past weekend, which made me think to post about Tiffany & Jared's Jamaica wedding from last November. The photographer, Punam Bean, is truly incredible and captured the beautiful fury of the hurricane that threatened to interrupt this ceremony (and ruin the photog's camera equipment!).
Of course, love conquers all and this wedding ended up being gorgeous and dramatic. See all the photos on Bean's blog.
